HATTIESBURG — William Carey University is closing its New Orleans campus.
University President Tommy King tells the Hattiesburg American enrollment in the school’s nursing program has not come back since Hurricane Katrina.
Since the late 1980s, the nursing program has resided on the campus of the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary.
Barbara Hamilton, executive assistant to the president, says operations will cease in December, when all 80 current nursing students enrolled on the campus have completed their courses.
At the time of Katrina, enrollment on the New Orleans campus was 337 students.
However, the university still will offer a nursing program in Louisiana, by offering a bachelor’s program in nursing starting this spring at Delgado Community College’s Northshore campus in Slidell, La.
