VICKSBURG — Warren County Circuit Clerk Shelly Ashley-Palmertree will not get a paycheck until she pays back money the state auditor’s office and the board of supervisors say is owed dating back to 2006.
The Vicksburg Post reports supervisors acted this week after talks with Ashley-Palmertree and her attorney failed to reach a resolution.
The action will not affect Ashley-Palmertree’s retirement or her employees’ salaries.
Ashley-Palmertree was paid about $7,900 in salary and fees in February, based on county records. What the clerk’s office takes in varies from one month to the next, depending on activity in the office.
The money includes $402,033 that the county contends Ashley-Palmertree was paid beyond a state-set salary cap and $163,700 in fees to her father and predecessor in office, Larry Ashley.
