Delta State golf course to be redesigned for Grammy Museum

golf_ball_webWhile all the talk has been about what the Grammy Museum Mississippi will add to the City of Cleveland and Delta State University, the 20,000-plus-square-foot facility is going to cost a little real estate.

To be more specific, the university’s golf course is going to have to sacrifice a couple of holes. However, plans are for the holes to be replaced and the course to be reconfigured.

The four-acre site for the Grammy Museum Mississippi is on Mississippi 8 on the south end of Delta State University’s Derrall Foreman Golf Course. The museum will encompass current holes four and five of the nine-hole course.

Rob Turner with Delta State’s facilities management and Ross Barkley of the architecture/engineering firm Eley|Barkley, P.A., said the holes would be replaced and the course, which serves both DSU athletics, students/faculty/staff, members as well as the general public, would remain a nine-hole course.

Derrall Foreman Golf Course’s par-36 nine holes play 3,086 yards from the championship tee and 2,572 from the middle tee. The par-72 18-hole course, which offers Bermuda fairways and greens, plays 6,327 and 5,136, respectively, from the championship and middle tees. It offers golf cart/club rental and pro shop.

The 18-hole fee for the general public is $25 per player, $20 per player for nine holes. Those fees include cart rental. (The fee for walkers is $15.)

The course opened in 1932.
