Hail damage closes Clinton school for rest of the year

clinton logoHail damage Monday at Clinton’s Lovett Elementary School is enough to close the school for the rest of the school year.

Parents, teachers, school district employees and volunteers were busy Wednesday packing up and preparing for a move into the old Eastside Elementary campus.

Lovett’s roof was badly damaged by baseball-size hail in the area and will have to be replaced. A posting on the school district’s website said officials are “concerned that moisture in the underlying decking will promote the growth of mildew and mold, and we do not want to risk the health of our students and teachers in this building.”

The tentative plan is for classes to begin Monday at Eastside. Lovett houses about 350 sixth-grade students. For more, visit the Clinton Public School District website.
