MDEQ lifts three beach advisories, issues new one

MISSISSIPPI GULF COAST — The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ), through its Beach Monitoring Program, has lifted several Gulf Coast beach water contact advisories.

The advisories were lifted for:

• Station 1 — Lakeshore, which extends from the Sliver Slipper Casino east to the jetty west of Poinset Avenue

• Station 2 — Buccaneer State Park

• Station 15 — Shearwater, which extends from Weeks Bayou to Ashley

The MDEQ also issued a water contact advisory for one sampling station in Gulfport. It is Station 8 — Gulfport West, which extends from Maria Avenue to Camp Avenue.

This segment of beach is not closed; however, there may be an increased risk of illness associated with swimming in this area.
