Hospice granted approval for new S. Miss. facility

COLUMBIA — Hospice Compassus of Brentwood, Tenn., has received approval from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services for a new office location in Columbia.

The expansion will create additional access to comprehensive and compassionate care for the residents of Columbia and surrounding areas, and it will impact economic development in the community through the creation of jobs.

“We recognize a need and a challenge for local residents who, like many in communities across the U.S., are underserved when it comes to hospice care,” said Glenda Sinclair, RN, executive director of the Hospice Compassus program in Columbia.

The new office will serve patients in Walthall, Marion, Lamar, and Forest counties as well as the Hattiesburg area, and will be staffed and supported by an interdisciplinary team of local medical directors, nurses, nurse assistants, home health aides, chaplains, bereavement coordinators, social workers and community volunteers specializing in hospice and palliative care.

Hospice Compassus is in the process of hiring local candidates for key positions for the Columbia office, including a medical director, director of clinical services, PRN nurse practitioner and team coordinator.

The office space, located at 501 Eagle Day Avenue, Suite B, has been renovated to meet the needs of Hospice Compassus and is already fully operational.
