VICKSBURG — Crews are clearing away the old Red Carpet Lanes bowling alley to make way for a retailing center on Clay Street.
The Vicksburg Post reports the sale of the property closed last week. The new owners are Baton Rouge, La.-based developers Michael and Mitch Kimble of Kimble Development.
Four buildings are in the works for the site where bowlers gathered for nearly 48 years until it closed in 2007, said John Magruder, who sold the property along with Clay Commons, LLC.
Kimble Development’s projects in Mississippi include retail centers in Natchez and Brookhaven, according to the company’s website. Its shopping developments in Louisiana are in and around Baton Rouge, Lafayette and Donaldsonville.
The Vicksburg bowling alley opened in 1960 as Holiday Lanes. The alley became Red Carpet Lanes in 1994.
Antiquated equipment and a steady drop in business were cited when the bowling alley closed.
