JACKSON — The Mississippi Senate has approved the appointment of Melinda McGrath, PE, to remain executive director of the Mississippi Department of Transportation.
McGrath’s appointment begins today and will end April 1, 2017, unless it is further extended.
As executive director, McGrath, the first woman to serve as leader of MDOT, oversees MDOT’s more than 3,000 employees and a transportation infrastructure that includes roadways and bridges, air, rail and ports. In 2012 the Mississippi Transportation Commission unanimously appointed McGrath as executive director and the three-member Commission reaffirmed her appointment again earlier this year.
For a year prior to her initial appointment, McGrath held the dual role of MDOT interim executive director and chief engineer.
McGrath, who began her career with MDOT in 1985, holds a bachelor of science in civil engineering from Mississippi State University.
She was recently recognized as a Distinguished Fellow by MSU’s Bagley College of Engineering.
