GULFPORT — Organizers of a weekend music festival in Gulfport say it drew 25,000 fans, despite high wind and rain.
The Sun Herald reports the Gulfport Music Festival’s first day on Friday came within an hour of being cancelled due to bad weather. And it was almost shut down Saturday when workers discovered the main stage had sunk nearly a foot into the mud and twisted in the overnight winds.
Center Staging of New Orleans provided a backup stage that saved the day and allowed the festival to continue.
Still, several of Saturday’s main stage bands were forced to cancel performances. Operations manager Kenny Vest says while it was unfortunate to have to cancel some performances, it was either that or not have the festival at all.
