State agency providing funds for Delta city beautification

GREENWOOD — Transportation funds will help the City of Greenwood continue its beautification of downtown.

The city is planning new sidewalks and street lamps for Main Street to produce a cohesive look and feel among city blocks.

Mayor Carolyn McAdams tells the Greenwood Commonwealth the city will get $1.12 million from the Mississippi Department of Transportation.

McAdams says Main Street will have washed concrete sidewalks and old-fashioned lamps that currently light other streets where beautification has been completed with MDOT funding.

McAdams says the city has 90 days to write a letter to activate the project.

Several steps must be taken before construction can begin, and McAdams said the city will be lucky if it can start renovation by January or February of next year.
