Ceiling tile factory reopening after four years; to employ 100+

MERIDIAN — CertainTeed will reopen its ceiling tile factory in Meridian, hiring 110 employees by 2016.

Gov. Phil Bryant and company officials made the announcement today at the company’s plant near Meridian’s Key Field airport.

CertainTeed laid off 90 workers at the plant in 2009, citing a depressed construction market. A small number of sales and distribution employees were retained.

The company will invest $24 million to overhaul the plant. Mississippi Development Authority spokeswoman Marlo Dorsey says the state will give the company $1.8 million in grants to help the work. Meridian and Lauderdale County will also aid the company, although their contributions weren’t immediately available.

CertainTeed is a unit of Saint-Gobain SA, a French conglomerate that makes glass, industrial materials and building materials and employs 109,000 people worldwide.
