Delta mayor wins; opponent just misses return to office

GREENWOOD— Carolyn McAdams has won a second term as Greenwood mayor.

The Greenwood Commonwealth reports today McAdams, an independent, received 2,618 votes, or 52 percent, in Tuesday’s election.

Her Democratic challenger, Sheriel Perkins, received 2,414 votes, or 48 percent.

Those are uncertified results, but the newspaper reports that Perkins conceded today after the announcement of a final count that included affidavit ballots. Perkins said she planned to review all the ballots but did not plan to challenge the count.

Perkins served one term as mayor, and McAdams unseated her in 2009.
