Pump station incident prompts precautionary closure of beach

BILOXI — The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ), through its Beach Monitoring Program, has issued a precautionary beach closure.

The affected beach is from Grande View Drive to Brady Drive in Biloxi (approximately from east of Edgewater Mall to just past Beauvoir).

The City of Biloxi reported to MDEQ that a pump station malfunctioned yesterday and that sewage entered the beach area. The pump station has been repaired.

Water contact at that beach should be avoided.  This includes swimming, wading, fishing, riding jet skis, etc.
