South Miss. companies working tornado cleanup in Oklahoma

PICAYUNE — Executive Recovery Group (ERG) was recently selected by the City of Moore, Okla., to monitor the town’s recovery efforts after the recent tornadoes that devastated the area.

Terms were not disclosed.

ERG’s role will be to monitor the removal of storm debris from public areas and right’s of way.

“This clean-up effort involves thousands of workers and contractors moving thousands of tons of debris from the city,” said ERG president Corey Smith. “Our role is to make sure this happens effectively and efficiently, saving time and money for the city as it begins to recover. By expediting the reporting and documentation we help increase the amount of money FEMA will reimburse the city of Moore.”

ERG monitors the debris at the clean-up sites, making sure contractors are removing only qualified materials and remnants. Each load is electronically tagged and followed with GPS software, allowing real-time data to be shared with city and FEMA officials at any point. The loads are digitally “checked-in” at the disposal sites and a digital log is kept showing transit time, weight and delivering contractor. This creates a much more accurate and reliable database for payment of contractors and reporting to FEMA.

“We’re able to use technology to speed up the process and make it much more simple to document the debris removal process,” said Brooks Wallace, creator of DebrisTech, also based in Picayune. “Our software eliminates any guesswork and provides instant documentation of what is being delivered to disposal sites.”

ERG says it is hiring as many workers in the Moore area as possible to help those who lost work due to the storm get back on their feet. “Many people in the town lost everything they owned including their jobs,” Smith said. “We feel like this is a chance for us to help them individually rebuild their lives, while at the same time we are helping the city rebuild their community.”
