STARKVILLE — Mayor Parker Wiseman has vetoed a decision by the board of aldermen to fire Starkville city administrator .
The board voted earlier this month to fire Spruill with Aldermen Jason Walker and Scott Maynard voting no. Board declined to give a reason for the decision. Alderman Ben Carver tells the Starkville Daily News that the majority felt Spruill would not fit in with the new board that took office July 1.
Spruill is paid $61,169 a year.
Wiseman says he would not have objected to a 90-day probationary period allowing the board to evaluate all department heads’ job performance, and questioned the board’s motivation for the decision not to renew Spruill’s contract with the city.
Wiseman says Spruill deserves to be informed of why she was fired.
