Report: Jackson one of country's most violent cities

crime-scene-tape-706717Business Insider reports that Jackson, Mississippi is one of the country’s most violent cities. The information comes from a new FBI study that analyzed the nationwide rise in violent crime last year.

Jackson ranked #8 ahead of Baltimore and Newark in the top ten list of violent U.S. cities that also included perennial offenders St. Louis, Cleveland, New Orleans, Oakland and Detroit.

The top city for violent crime in the country, according to the study, is Flint, Michigan which reported 62 murders, 106 forcible rapes a staggering 662 robberies last year.

In the past week, TV stations in Jackson have reported on several violent crimes in the city including a couple of armed robberies in church parking lots, a home invasion over the weekend where a gunman shot a woman and her pet dog and a drive-by shooting Monday night that left one person dead.
