CONs issued for two hospital projects; one for $1.2M cost overrun

SOUTHAVEN and GREENWOOD — The Mississippi State Department of Health has issued certificates of need (CONs) for projects at two Mississippi hospitals.

MSDH issued a CON to Baptist Memorial Hospital-DeSoto in Southaven to add therapeutic radiation equipment to its existing radiation services at the hospital. Baptist Memorial Hospital proposed to increase the number of radiation therapy units that are used for regular service from one (linear accelerator 6-15 MV) to two (linear accelerator Varian Clinac 21 EX). The project will entail converting the existing backup unit at BMH-D to regular, full-time use.

There is no capital expenditure for this project.

Greenwood Leflore Hospital received CON)authority for a cost overrun on the replacement of central plant equipment (CON No. R-0833). The most significant of the additional expenses associated with this project relate to increased renovation costs, unforeseen renovation, and equipment expenditures.

The original capital expenditure was $10,767,909, and the additional capital expenditure is $1,200,937, bringing the revised capital expenditure to $11,968,846.
