ROLLING FORK — The trial for the former town clerk of Anguilla, who has been indicted for embezzlement of $107,444, has been rescheduled for Sept. 16.
The Vicksburg Post reports that 33-year-old Manika Kelly was scheduled for trial yesterday in Sharkey County but Circuit Judge M. James Chaney moved the trial date. Kelly remains free on $15,000 bond.
The indictment alleges Kelly took the money from Anguilla’s water and sewer deposits between October 2006 and November 2011. Kelly was town clerk from July 2001 to Feb. 7, 2012, when she was fired.
A shortage of about $75,000 in deposits was revealed in 2012 by an audit and a review by the state auditor’s office uncovered the additional shortage, according to court records.
If convicted, Kelly faces up to 10 years in prison.
