Before he started working on his documentary called “Weed,” Dr. Sanjay Gupta thought the research backing medical marijuana was unimpressive. “I’m here to apologize,” he says.
In a first-person article he wrote in advance of “Weed,” Gupta says he had not looked hard enough at the issue, until now. I didn’t look far enough,” says the neurosurgeon who is CNN’s chief medical correspondent and who had been considered by President Obama for nomination as U.S. Surgeon General, a post he declined.
The United States and its people have been “”systematically misled” on marijuana, he says.
He writes that in traveling the world and doing interviews with medical leaders in preparing the “Weed” documentary that will air at 7 p.m. CT Aug. 11 on CNN, “What I found was stunning.”
