Aldermen want to annex site of new Batpist hospital

Baptist_logo_t180OXFORD — The Oxford Board of Aldermen wants to annex about 150 acres south of where the new Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi, a regional hospital, is being built.

The property where the hospital is being built is also involved in an annexation process.

In March, a Lafayette County chancery judge ruled in favor of several landowners who petitioned the court to allow Oxford to annex the former Franklin Estates property, which was then purchased by Baptist to build the new hospital. However, a land developer appealed the decision to the Mississippi Supreme Court, which has yet to rule.

The Oxford Eagle reports that City Attorney Pope Mallette will file an annexation petition with the chancery court. He is hoping for a hearing in October or early November.
