How Mississippi turned $3.5 million into $80 million

The Mississippi Department of Revenue has validated that old adage that you must spend money to make money.

tax form picA Washington Post report published today details how increased tax collection enforcement efforts from a $3.5 legislative allocation helped lead to collection of $190 million in unpaid taxes and increase state revenues by more than $80 million over the previous year.

The $3.5 million in extra funding went to paying for 44 new auditors and collection agents.
