A Delta city has enhanced its airport, and it is throwing a party — as well it should.
The Cleveland Municipal Airport recently completed construction of a new runway, and will host a Runway Grand Opening Air Show to celebrate. The event will be held Oct. 17, and according to The Bolivar Commercial will include a number of events, including aircraft flybys.
The airport expansion was done in three phases. The first was work and drainage followed by paving and electrical work. The final phase included overlay and lighting to run the pan of the new runway.
The airport got $150,000 from the Federal Aviation Administration for the runway extension and paving.
Any positive news about airports in the Delta is significant, but it is especially important in Cleveland as Delta State University is the only public institution of higher learning in Mississippi that offers a bachelor of commercial aviation. The DSU program utilizes Cleveland Municipal Airport.
