Commission approves permit for minor league baseball stadium

BILOXI — The Biloxi Planning Commission unanimously approved a conditional-use permit for construction of a minor league baseball stadium, but held off giving a permit to remove 18 trees at the site.

By an 8-5 vote, the commission tabled the tree permit for two weeks in hopes of saving even one more tree on the 13-acre property on U.S. 90.

The Sun Herald reports a group of citizens worked for two weeks with the architects to save some of the protected Live oak and magnolia trees.

Grace Aaron says the group is in favor of the stadium but it would be a shame for the city to take down any more trees than necessary.
