JRA starts again to find developer for convention complex hotel

JACKSON — The Jackson Redevelopment Authority will start anew in finding a developer to build a long-delayed hotel across from the Jackson Convention Complex.

JRA interim executive director Willie Mott tells The Clarion-Ledger the agency hopes to issue a formal request for proposals early next year after agency officials said a deal announced in June for Savannah, Ga.-based Robinson Callen development firm to build the facility was not completed.

Meanwhile, the company says it will be one of the bidders to win the project.

In June, then-Mayor Harvey Johnson Jr. announced Robinson Callen would build a $60 million, 12-story, 305-room hotel to serve the convention center, which has functioned without an anchor hotel since opening in January 2009.
