Brister leaving Polymer Institute; Thompson filling in

The Mississippi Polymer Institute is in a transition phase with the departure of director Dr. Bryan Brister, who has accepted a position as chief operating officer with Voltea, an international water purification company. MPI operations leader Robert Thompson will assume the role of interim director.

Brister came to MPI in 2010 as director and during that time has helped lead the institute to five-fold growth. The Gulfport native spent eight years with General Electric, including service on GE’s corporate audit staff and a business leadership role in GE Water and Process Technologies. In January 2007 he became a founding member of Seven Seas Water and served as vice president – operations through the company’s start-up phase.

Thompson has more than 20 years industrial experience and has been a driving force in the growth of the Mississippi Polymer Institute the past 16 years. He has served as a technical service provider, operating manager and assisted in defining the strategic mission of the institute.
