COLUMBUS — The city of Columbus has cancelled its contract with Lawrence Transit System for public bus service.
Mayor Robert Smith told The Commercial Dispatch that he informed LTS coordinator Dorothy Dowdell of the city’s decision.
Smith says he will be talking with representatives of three other companies regarding a public transportation service.
Smith says he will then talk with council members and gather public input so the next company chosen is successful in starting a city bus system.
The City Council voted Nov. 5 to grant LTS a 30-day extension to have buses running. The extension ran out last Friday. The original contract was approved in September 2012.
