SHERMAN — The town of Sherman has been given the go-ahead to double in geographic size.
The Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal reports Chancery Judge Talmadge Littlejohn approved Sherman’s annexation plan yesterday after the third public hearing. The town of 650 people, with portions located in Pontotoc, Lee and Union counties, will add about 30 residents with the expansion, which should be finalized in January.
Sherman mayor Ben Logan said after the hearing that this expansion will position the town to benefit for future commercial, industrial and residential growth. With annexed land, Sherman’s geographic size will grow to just under five square miles.
