MADISON — The Madison County Board of Supervisors has turned down a public records request from the mayor of Madison.
Mayor Mary Hawkins Butler wants to see a study about restructuring the Lost Rabbit Public Improvement District outside city limits.
The Clarion-Ledger reports that county officials said it would be premature to release the records during settlement talks for lawsuits about special assessments levied to pay off more than $18 million in bonds for improvements.
Madison County and plaintiffs in one of those suits prepared the study.
Board attorney Mike Espy told supervisors the report is exempt from the state public records law because it is an attorney “work product.”
Two days after Hawkins Butler filed her request, plaintiffs asked the judge to seal the report.
