Group wants to open two charter schools in Columbus

schoolCOLUMBUS — Another group interested in starting a charter school — this one to be located in Columbus — has said it plans to file an official letter of intent with the state before the Jan. 22 deadline.

Columbus Coalition for Educational Options hopes to start two charter schools at the site of a former Columbus Municipal School District elementary school building.

CCEO consultant, Martha Liddell, tells The Clarion-Ledger the facility is now owned by Genesis Church in Columbus.

The plans include a K-3 grade that would start enrolling all four grades the first year.

Liddell said each year following the initial opening another grade would be added until it tops out at sixth grade.
