DMR pays accounting firm more than double contract's worth

HorneLogo.2C.hiresBILOXI — The Department of Marine Resources, within months of signing a contract with the firm that conducted a 60-day review of the agency last year, has more than doubled the amount of money the agency will pay.

DMR signed a contract in October with HORNE LLP for grant and accounting management assistance, according to documents on the state’s transparency site. Those documents say the contract is worth $100,000.

However, an internal DMR memo on Jan. 17 said the contract amount will be increased to $250,000.

The contract expires at the end of the fiscal year on June 30.

DMR spokeswoman Melissa Scallan tells The Sun Herald HORNE is being paid from various funds, depending on what department the group is working in

She says most of the work is accounting.
