MDEQ lifts advisory for segments of two Coast beaches

Mississippi Gulf Coast 009BAY ST. LOUIS and GULFPORT — The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ), through its Beach Monitoring Program, has lifted the water contact advisories for two beach monitoring stations on the Coast.

The stations are:

• Station 4-Bay St. Louis Beach, which extends from the box culvert east to Ballantine Street

• Station 9-Gulfport Harbor Beach, which extends from 20th Avenue east to Thornton Avenue

Water samples at these stations show the areas have attained acceptable bacteria levels. The Gulf Coast Research Laboratory, which performs water sampling of the Mississippi Gulf Coast beaches for MDEQ, notifies the agency when an area returns to acceptable levels and safe conditions.
