MDEQ lifts beach advisories, closure; all stations now clear

Mississippi Gulf Coast 009HARRISON COUNTY — The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ), through its Beach Monitoring Program, has lifted two water contact advisories for Coast beach monitoring stations.

The affected stations are:

• Station 7A-Long Beach Beach, which extends from Oak Gardens Avenue east to Girard Avenue

• Station 8, Gulfport West Beach, which extends from Marie Avenue east to Camp Avenue

In addition, a closure has been lifted for Station 5-Pass Christian West, which extends from Fort Henry east to Elliot Avenue.

There are currently no stations under an advisory across the Mississippi Gulf Coast.

Water samples at these stations show the areas have attained acceptable bacteria levels. The Gulf Coast Research Laboratory, which performs water sampling of the Mississippi Gulf Coast beaches for MDEQ, notifies the agency when an area returns to acceptable levels and safe conditions.
