The mudslinging over a blogger taking a photograph of the ill wife of a U.S. Senator is far from over.
Mississippi Sen. Thad Cochran’s campaign says his Republican primary challenger failed to report a potential crime to authorities after learning someone briefly posted an online video with an unauthorized photo of Cochran’s bedridden wife in a nursing home.
Challenger Chris McDaniel says he had nothing to do with the video and won’t engage the Cochran campaign in an “absurd witch hunt.”
Today’s exchange of statements came a day before a scheduled court appearance for Clayton Thomas Kelly, a conservative blogger who’s charged with a felony, exploiting a vulnerable adult.
Authorities charge Kelly photographed Rose Cochran, without permission, in the nursing home where she has lived the past 13 years.
Cochran faces McDaniel in the June 3 primary. McDaniel is a state lawmaker.
