WAVELAND — A Mississippi vendor for the Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office in Louisiana has pleaded guilty to failing to file taxes.
U.S. Attorney Kenneth Polite Jr. says 36-year-old Kendall O. Marquar, of Waveland, entered the plea Tuesday before U.S. Magistrate Judge Sally Shushan to one count of willfully failing to file taxes.
According to court documents, from 2000 to 2012 Marquar’s company, K&D Earthworks, was a maintenance and construction vendor for the sheriff’s office. During 2007, 2008, and 2009, he earned about $580,379 in taxable income but failed to file taxes. As a result, Polite says Marquar owes the Internal Revenue Service about $156,941. As part of his plea agreement, Marquar agreed to repay the IRS.
Marquar also faces a year in prison and a $100,000 fine. Sentencing is set for Sept. 9.
