Six-year-old leak in Ross Barnett dam finally getting repaired

RIDGELAND — Workers are starting to repair a leak that officials have been monitoring for the past six years in the dam of the Ross Barnett Reservoir near Jackson.

Ross_Barnett_ReservoirThe Clarion-Ledger reports that the Pearl River Valley Water Supply District, which oversees the reservoir, is now in a financial position to do the $600,000 repair job.

The district’s executive director, John Sigman, says the repair is “rather routine” but needs to be done. He says workers will clean out a sand drain that was installed in the 1960s.

The repair contract is for four months, but Sigman says he hopes the work will be finished more quickly.
