Town of Hatley to hold election in wake of mayor's death

politicsHATLEY — The town of Hatley will hold a special election Sept. 30 to elect a new mayor.

The board of aldermen set the qualifying date for candidates for Sept. 10.

The election comes after the death of Mayor Pete Vaughn on Aug. 9. Vaughn died at his home of natural causes. He was 63.

Vaughan served as mayor of Hatley for six years. He ran unopposed in 2008 and was re-elected in 2012.

The winner of the special election will complete the remainder of Vaughn’s four-year term.

Hatley is a town of about 480 people in Monroe County in north Mississippi.
