Columbia Parachute expanding, relocating to BusinessPlex

COLUMBIA — Columbia Parachute Company is expanding and creating new jobs at its Columbia plant.

The announcement came yesterday by Gov. Phil Bryant and company officials.

Officials say the project represents a $300,000 corporate investment and will create 26 new jobs, bringing the total number employed by the company to 50.

Columbia Parachute Company currently leases space in the Pioneer Aerospace facility in Columbia. The expansion requires the company to relocate to an 11,000-square-foot an existing facility in the Marion County BusinessPlex, formerly the Columbia Training School campus.

The Mississippi Development Authority provided $400,000 in Rural Impact Funds and provided a loan of $350,000 to the Marion County Board of Supervisors.

Officials say the money is for building renovations.

The company was established in 2012 and manufactures parachutes for the military.
