MDA awards Site Development Grants to eight communities

Brent Chritensen

AROUND MISSISSIPPI — The Mississippi Development Authority recently awarded eight Site Development Grants to economic development entities throughout the state.

The matching grant program is designed to assist nonprofit economic development organizations or local governments in preparing available greenfield sites for industrial development.

The program is open to all economic development organizations and units of local government. Grant recipients are selected after MDA’s Grants Review Committee thoroughly reviews each application’s proposed site development and its potential for improving industrial recruitment efforts.

Applicants can only apply for one project and must match state grant dollars 1:1. Individual county projects are eligible for a maximum of $25,000 in matching funds from MDA. To encourage regional approaches to economic development, MDA will consider an additional $10,000 for multi-county partnership applications.

Recipients of Site Development Grant Program funds for 2015 are:

• Tate County Economic Development Foundation

• The Alliance

• Greater Grenada Foundation of Economic Development

• RankinFirst Economic Development Authority

• Choctaw County Economic Development District

• Jefferson Davis County Board of Supervisors

• Marion County Development Partnership

• George County Board of Supervisors

MDA Executive Director Brent Christensen said, “In today’s economy, many companies seek locations that are ready for construction immediately so they can begin operations as quickly as possible, and this program allows MDA to help provide more shovel-ready sites throughout the state.”
