BATESVILLE — Gov. Phil Bryant and local officials have cut the ribbon on the newly-renovated Skyview Apartments in Batesville.
It represents the first development to open its doors that received a special award of Housing Tax Credits under the Governor’s Health Care Zone initiative.
Bryant said. “This is exactly the type of project we envisioned when we asked developers to submit these health care master plans, and I know this is only the first success story of many to come around Mississippi. These developments will provide workforce housing for families to raise their children in a safe place and pursue the American dream.”
The redevelopment breathes new life into an aging development and offers better living conditions for the residents, said Rick Wishcamper, president of the Wishrock Development Group. “We’re in the business of taking community liabilities and turning them into community assets,” Wishcamper continued. “We do that through the tax credit program and a range of partnerships. Through this rehabilitation, we will require fewer resources from the city and county while paying more in property taxes than this development has paid in a long time. It’s a win for the residents, the city of Batesville and for the developers and our partners.”
“The Mississippi Home Corporation is proud to partner with Governor Bryant on his Health Care Zone initiative and with our developer partners to provide much-needed housing through the tax credit program,” said Dianne Bolen, executive director of MHC. “These public/private partnerships serve to change lives in the community, and we hope Skyview will serve as a catalyst for change and be the beginning of great things for Batesville.”
