Smith, Anderson in runoff for Democratic candidacy for mayor

politicsWAVELAND — Voters in Waveland will decide next Tuesday who will be the Democratic mayoral candidate for the Dec. 1 general election.

City Fire Chief Mike Smith and city Building Official Brent Anderson merged from a crowded primary field to advance to the runoff.

Polls will be open from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m.

Those who voted in last week’s Democratic primary or registered voters who did not vote at all are eligible to vote on Tuesday. Those who cast ballots in the city’s Republican primary are not allowed to vote in the runoff.

The winner of the Democratic mayoral primary runoff will take on Republican candidate Jay Trapani in the general election.

Mayor David Garcia did not seek re-election.
