Vaughn Wilson

Petal author, Vaughn Wilson, took top honors at the Will Rogers Medallion Award ceremony in Fort Worth, Texas.

Wilson won three gold medallions in the “Western Fiction for Younger Readers” category for his books “Bronco Sam and the Mustang,” “Lecile and the Racing Rodeo Mule” and “Trevor and the Cow-Shy Cow Horse.”

His publishing company, Hawk Crest Publishing, was also awarded three additional gold medallions for “Outstanding Achievement in the Publishing of Western Literature” for each book, which are all a part of Wilson’s “Unkle Hokum” series.

The Will Rogers Medallion Award was originally created to recognize quality works of cowboy poetry that honored the Will Rogers heritage, but has expanded to include other works of Western literature and film. The quality of each entry is judged on content and artistic presentation.
