GULFPORT — A $58 million transformation of the beachfront tower at Island View Casino has turned the 18-story building into a hotel and conference center with a South Beach vibe and amenities that make it a luxury beach resort.
The Sun Herald reports the new project gets its wow factor from the 405 rooms and suites that all have a view of the water, five new restaurants, a spa and workout room, 14,000 square feet of convention space and surprises such as unexpected lighting and colorful finishes.
“It checked off every list,” said Terry Green, co-owner of Island View Casino Resort with Rick Carter. “Now the package is complete.”
Island View now has 970 rooms. “We’re already booked for the next six weeks,” Carter said. “Both hotels.”
Gov. Phil Bryant helped cut the ribbon Wednesday to officially open the resort.
“This has something very unique,” he said. “Access to the beach.” The new Beach Club is on the water and has cabanas and paddleboat rentals.
Bryant said many Mississippi companies hold their conventions in Alabama and Florida. “I don’t like that,” he said. The amenities of the new Beach Tower will allow people to attend meetings and bring their families to enjoy the beach, he said.
“That is one of the beauties of this facility, particularly for this area of the Coast,” said Gulfport Mayor Billy Hewes. The tower provides much-needed hotel rooms, convention space and 300 new jobs, he said, and ties in to the revitalized downtown.
