Reclining furniture manufacturer Southern Motion is expanding operations at its facility in Baldwyn. The project represents a $600,000 investment and will create 60 jobs during the next 12 months, according to a release issued on Thursday.
This expansion will bring employment at the facility to 235. Southern Motion also has operations in Pontotoc, where the company employs 1,100 workers.
For parking lot expansion, the Mississippi Development Authority gave Southern Motion $100,000 through its ACE program, requiring a 10 percent match, half of which was contributed by the Prentiss County Development Association, and $5,000 jointly from the city of Baldwyn and Prentiss County.
Southern Motion manufactures “motion furniture,” including recliners, sofas and loveseats, sectionals and home-theater furniture.
