Innovate Mississippi kicks off a 24-hour fund-a-thon at 11 central tonight and through 11 Tuesday night to raise prize money for winners of a venture challenge later this month.
The idea is to help “great new startup ventures in Mississippi,” Innovate’s CEO Tony Jeff said in an email to media and supporters of the organization that helps both creative economy and brick & mortar businesses launch and grow.
“One-hundred percent of the proceeds will go to the winners of the 8th Annual Mississippi New Venture Challenge Business Competition being held May 19 in Jackson,” he said.
Jeff said Innovate is asking for any size donation, from $20, $100 or more. He called the fund-a-thon a “unique crowdfunding opportunity.”
“While you may be familiar with crowdfunding through organizations like Kickstarter and GoFundMe, where you can donate or receive rewards for donations to companies online, we are excited that Give Local America is offering this investing opportunity for Mississippi companies,” Jeff said in his email.
Potential donors will receive an email Tuesday morning with a link and simple instructions for safely donating
He directed readers with questions to a site that will be live when the campaign opens: at https://www.givelocal15.org/#npo/innovate-mississippi.
The Mississippi New Venture Challenge is from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesday, May 19, at the Jackson Convention Complex. It is free to the public.
