Jobs coming to Mississippi, furniture company expands

WREN — United Furniture Industries is moving its distribution operations to the former Lane Furniture Industries distribution facility in Wren.

The company says 50 employees will be hired in Wren while another 50 will be hired at United’s factories in Amory, Nettleton and Okolona.

Tuesday’s announcement comes five months after United opened a new manufacturing plant in Verona. The facility was purchased by United last fall. It now employs almost 300.

United Furniture has more than 2,000 workers in northeast Mississippi. Other facilities are in Hatley and Vardaman.

The Monroe County this week approved a purchase agreement and an immediate possession contract for United to acquire the county-owned building in Wren.

The Mississippi Development Authority provided $200,000 for sprinkler system improvements. The Tennessee Valley Authority also provided financial help.
