Rhodes, of Vancleave, served in the state Senate from 1972 to 1984 and was chairman of the Oil and Gas Committee.
The Mississippi Press reports Rhodes was a lifelong resident of Jackson County and served with the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. He also taught and coached football at East Central High School.
His survivors include a son, Landon Rhodes, and two sisters.
Services were held Wednesday in Moss Point with burial in Machpelah Cemetery in Pascagoula.
