Lisa Byrd, Family Nurse Practitioner-Board Certified and Gerontological Nurse Practitioner-Board Certified, has joined the primary care clinic on the campus of Merit Health Rankin. Most recently, Byrd served as Director of Education and champion of the Community Cares program at Merit Health Central.
Byrd has a variety of experience in nursing and caring for all age groups with a special emphasis in geriatric care. Byrd previously owned and operated Bolton Family Clinic and oversaw and directed the structure/practice of nurse practitioners in nursing homes through Lisa Byrd Healthcare, Inc.
Byrd has both her gerontology certificate and doctorate of philosophy degree in nursing from the University of Southern Mississippi, post-master’s degree nurse educator certificate from Alcorn State University, master’s degree in nursing from Mississippi University for Women, bachelor’s degree in nursing from Mississippi College and associate’s degree in nursing from Hinds Community College. She is a licensed registered nurse in Mississippi, Alabama, California, Illinois, Louisiana, Nevada, Oregon and Washington.
Byrd is a national speaker and recent editor of the GAPNA section in the Journal of Geriatric Nursing. Her other publications include journal articles as well as three books: “Caregiver Survival Guide 101: Managing Geriatric Behaviors in Elders with Dementia”, “Top Ten Geriatric Syndromes: Strategies for Management” and “Strategies to Prevent Alzheimer’s Disease.”
She will be practicing at 346 Crossgates Blvd., Suite 202 in Brandon.
