Marion County tax assessor resigns

COLUMBIA — The newly elected tax assessor for Marion County has resigned after just two months in office.

The Hattiesburg American reports Vance Berry handed in his resignation Monday to the Marion County Board of Supervisors, stating his resignation would be effective at close of business that day.

The board, in a news release, said Berry gave no reason for his resignation.

Dana Elzey has been appointed manager of the tax office until supervisors appoint an interim assessor. A special election will be held in November. The elected candidate will serve out the remainder of Berry’s term.
