Trustmark reports earnings up for third quarter

Trustmark Corp. reported on Tuesday net income of $31 million, or 46 cents per common share, in the third quarter of 2016, compared with $28.4 million, or 42 cents, a 9 percent increase, a year earlier.

The results met Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of three analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was also for earnings of 46 cents per share.

The Jackson-based holding company for Trustmark National Bank posted revenue of $146.9 million in the period, falling short of Street forecasts. Three analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $147.8 million.

Trustmark shares have climbed 20 percent since the beginning of the year. In the final minutes of trading on Tuesday, shares hit $27.76 on the Nasdaq stock market, a rise of 14 percent in the past 12 months.

Shares stood at $28.02 in midday trading on Thursday.
