Diamondhead Fire Protection District clerk arrested

DIAMONDHEAD — Hancock County sheriff’s deputies have arrested an employee of the Diamondhead Fire Protection District, accusing her of embezzling more than $25,000 from taxpayers.

The Sun Herald reports 55-year-old Sandra Zitterkopf, of Kiln, faces a charge of embezzlement.

Sheriff Ricky Adam said his deputies took Zitterkopf into custody just before noon on Monday.

Adam said the sheriff’s office began investigating Zitterkopf about two months ago after financial discrepancies were discovered in an audit of the district’s accounting records.

Online jail records do not list an attorney for her.
